Only Three Years to Go!

By the time tickets to the 2000 Olympic Games go on sale in 1999, Sydney, Australia, will be ready to bask in the glare of the international spotlight. It is not too soon to begin planning.

If you would like to scout out the area beforehand, Sydney will be beginning its Cultural Progam in 1997, with each year of the Cultural Olympiad having a distinct theme.

Frequently Asked Questions:

• When can I purchase tickets for specific venues at the Sidney Olympics?
  • Tickets to Olympic events will not be available until 1999, and there does not seem to be a mechanism for queuing requests, yet. I am in contact with the company that will be handling these tickets. It seems likely that the tickets will not be distributed on a first-come first-served basis, but by some sort of lottery system. I will let you know as soon as details become available.
• When can I arrange for accomodations for the Sidney Olympics?
  • If you are interested in a homestay or Bed and Breakfast accomodations, it may be possible to make reservations soon. However, the major hotels will not take reservations more than 50 weeks in advance.
• When can I make air reservations to get to Sidney?
  • Not yet. :-)
    It is not possible to make reservations until the tariffs are published, and that is usually done about a year in advance. In this case, however, some airlines may publish their tariffs earlier than usual to attract early-birds like yourself. I'll let you know if any do.
• If it is too early to buy venue tickets, or reserve flights or accomodations, why did you put this page on the web?
  • I figure some people will want to go to Australia soon to check out the lay of the land, and to check out the best locations to stay. I also have been receiving lots of material from the Aussie Tourist Board, and thought I could get some use out of it. :-)
