Flying is the most wonderful thing I have ever found. It's challenging and exhilarating at the same time. Training was one of the toughest learning experiences of my life, but it was worth every bit of effort. The knowledge and friendships I have gained during the process and as part of the general aviation community are priceless. Few people have the privilege of being able to fly. I'm proud to say I'm one of those few.
I earned my wings as a private pilot in October 1998. While certainly not an inexpensive avocation, I have managed to make a few flights for fun and as convenient transportation for my business. A few of my future travel destinations include the Poconos in eastern Pennsylvania, Colonial Williamsburg in Virginia, the Great Smoky Mountains in Tennessee, the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, the Grand Canyon in Arizona. One of my biggest dreams is to fly to Alaska.
Flying makes trips like these cost less than half the time it takes to drive to the same places. And the view are magnificent - only the birds have better. One day I hope to have a plane of my own that can take me to all these places. Until then, I'll have to stick with weekend rentals and short hops.
While going solo is great, having someone to share the experience is immeasurably more rewarding.
