At the Kyongju World Expo

Cartoon-character mascots are popular with Korean businesses and attractions, even showing up in advertisements for banks and (of all places) outside the police station. These flower sculptures depict the mascots for the Kyongju World Expo, which Margaret visited in late October of 2000. Their images were repeated throughout the expo site. The style is uniquely Korean, in the same way that equivalent Japanese cartoon characters have a distinctive style.

The man posing in front of the sculptures is Margaret's taxi driver, who not only delivered her to the expo, but found her a place to stay, helped her buy a ticket to the expo, and saw that she got inside with no trouble. Now that's service.
