On a path near Chonji Waterfall on Cheju.

Korea is a small and highly developed country, so nature hasn't always fared well as it's grown. But as in European nations, sometimes one sees surprising ways in which Koreans have worked with nature instead of against it. Walls and even houses are sometimes literally built around ancient trees.

We found this tree in the park near Chonji Waterfall on the island of Cheju. It's hard to say whether it was allowed to grow over the path, or whether the path was built without removing it. Either way, it's a small victory for nature.
