A vendor in Kangnung's central market catches 40 winks while she waits for customers.
There's not much risk in this; it's very unlikely that anyone would steal merchandise.
Not only would another stall vendor probably spot the culprit, it just isn't much done. The traditional central market stalls are the place to shop for low prices on merchandise from fruit to pigs' heads to shoes and kitchen gadgets. It's also the place where you can get to know the merchants personally. But this way of life is on its way out. Younger Koreans prefer shopping at the western style supermarkets and department stores, and few younger merchants are moving in to take over the traditional market stalls as older vendors retire and die. Recently, Wal-Mart requested permission to build a department store in Kangnung.
