Squid drying at Kyong Po Beach

In the US, taverns serve peanuts and popcorn with your favorite beverage. In Korea, you're at least as likely to get shredded dried squid to munch with your beer, makkoli, or soju.

Found on a Nong Shim Champong Noodle package. Squid are also served in many other dishes, and are even one of the powdered ingredients for some flavors of packaged ramyan noodles. (This easy-to-fix instant soup is at least as popular in Korea as in the States, but the Korean version comes in a larger package, usually with an extra packet of dried vegetables and other goodies.)

In the photo above, squid dry in the sun along the road near Kyongpo Beach. The ocean is visible through the trees.
