Koreans celebrate Valentine's day on the 14th of February too, but they treat the
holiday a bit differently. This is the day for women to give gifts to their sweethearts.
The men reciprocate on White Day, a month later (the 14th of March). And Black Day,
yet another month later in April, is the holiday for those who are unattached. Just as in America, candy is a favored gift, but it's not usually put up in prefab heart-shaped one-pound boxes. Instead, each piece is purchased already wrapped as if it were an individual gift; then a whole collection of these tiny presents is packed into a decorative box for presentation to the lucky valentine. Each tiny "gift" in the photo above is an elegantly wrapped chocolate. By the way, Korean chocolates are entirely acceptable, but hardly on a par with Belgian or Swiss chocolates.
