A truck vendor in Kangnung.

There are still a few traditional hand-pulled carts, but the modern vendors now use trucks. These tiny snub-nosed pickups are remarkably versatile, with beds larger than those on big American pickups. They are often piled high, and their owners may be selling anything from household goods to fresh chicken, fish, or vegetables.

Some roll slowly through the neighborhoods, loudspeakers barking inducements to buy (Korea is not a place for the person who loves peace and quiet). Others, like this one, set up shop on busy streets or near the marketplaces.
